Troop 6 owns 17 Garcia Bear Barrels and is
willing to rent them to other scout troops and youth groups which might want to
use them. These barrels are recommended for use in wilderness areas with lots of
bears. Some national forests and parks are requiring their use. They have been
proven to be bear safe. They are made of a very tough smooth black plastic which
does not allow a bear to get a grip on the barrel and is too large to fit in a
bear's mouth.

See Boys' Life Magazine, April 2006, page 12.
These barrels have been tested by filling them with apples and throwing them
into a den of bears. The bears were unsuccessful in opening them up.
We will rent them for $2 per night. They include a strap
designed to attach them to the outside of a backpack, but they fit nicely inside
of most contoured frameless backpacks. They are numbered so it is easy for a
scout to find "his" barrel.
