Philmont Scout Ranch is in northeastern New Mexico in the Sangre de Cristo mountains. Our troop takes a 12 day trek there about every 3 years. We are going the summer of 1998 with two crews, totalling 24 scouts and scouters of Troop 6. Here is where you can get a preview of what our trek might be like.

Trail Headquarters at Bear Wallow is a privately run trail system north of Nashville, Indiana. The trail system is specifically designed for scout troops. The trails average about 12 to 14 miles long and are quite strenuous with lots of ups and downs. Incredible patches are available. Camping is available at the Bear Wallow property. We highly recommend this trail system.

United States Geological Survey River Gauges

This site shows a map of the USA. You click on a state, then you can access the river level on all the major rivers and creeks in that state. That site will show you the water levels for the past week, or you can access historical data. Also, it will show you the drainage area, where the gauge is, and all sorts of other cool things about your favorite river or creek.

National Speological Society

The NSS is the national organization that is related to caves and caving. Speleofest, which we attend each year is sponsored by the grottos in the area. A grotto is a local caving club and is affiliated with the NSS. The NSS holds an annual national caving convention somewhere in the USA. This past year it was held in Missouri. This coming year, it will be in Tennessee.
