We had 6 scouts and four adults make the journey to Western Michigan to canoe for 6 straight days on the mighty Manistee River. We had an amazing time navigating this challenging river and came away with solid canoeing and camping skills. This trip required us to travel with all of our food in our boats, break and build camp each day, and cook every meal. Throughout the trip, our boats got lighter and our camping skills sharper as we tackled the river as a troop. Highlights included fantastic hot meals, water fights in the river, Mr. Clare saving a bird hung up on fishing line, and especially 2 separate sightings of Bald Eagles. Since we were able to use our own canoes and other gear, costs were kept to a manageable level too. Hopefully this trip will continue to be in Troop 6’s rotation for years to come!
